Today I’m talking about something that I love…green juice! Juicing in general has become such a hot trend and I’m very excited about that because it’s such an easy way to bring a high amount of micronutrients into your body on a daily basis.
Cold-pressed juices are my favorite because by compressing greens and veggies you’re literally extracting all of the minerals and nutrients and absorbing them straight into your body!
When I juice at home I use a Vitamix and like to mix certain combinations of things together so I know exactly what I’m consuming. But now that ready-made fresh juices are more available than ever before, I tell people to be sure to watch the sugar content closely when buying a pre-made juice. At Bloom we’re always talking about keeping your sugar levels down – and it’s important to remember that many fruits have a lot of sugar in them naturally. So…one of my tricks when I’m juicing for myself at home is to make sure that I use 95% greens (my favorite combo is parsley, cucumbers, celery and spinach,) and 5% fruit (apple – to give it a little bit sweet).
But if you’re out and about and looking for a great spot to grab a juice – I highly recommend the “Choice Greens” juice from Choice Juicery in Carlsbad or the “Balance Greens” from Beaming in Del Mar. Both contain mostly greens with just a hint of sweetness.
With the holidays upon us I’m also a big fan of “Detox Retox” cocktails – which are made with vodka or silver tequila, sparking water and green juice. My favorite juice to use in these cocktails is the “Skinny Cooler” from Beaming (in Del Mar) – it’s so delicious and a little bit spicy – but you can choose any green juice or veggie juice that you prefer. If you are going to be drinking during the holidays this combo can literally stave off the hangover and help stop some of the negative effects of alcohol.
So drink up my friends! Swing by Bloom where we feature a selection of juices from both Choice and beaming right now in our fridge.
Cheers to good health and LOTS of juicing this holiday season!
